Hot mic reveals JD Vance’s 7-word critique before Donald Trump’s address to Congress
A hot mic appears to have picked up some of JD Vance’s critiques before President Donald Trump delivered his lengthy speech to Congress.
Anyone expecting a brief and to-the-point address from Trump was in for a long night. His speech clocked in at a staggering 99 minutes and 32 seconds, making it the longest joint session address in at least 60 years.
The American Presidency Project, which tracks the lengths of U.S. presidential speeches, confirmed that Trump surpassed past leaders by a significant margin.
To be fair, Trump wasn’t actually speaking for a full 99 minutes and 32 seconds—a chunk of that time was spent basking in applause and dealing with interruptions. But it was a moment before the lengthy speech that has also caught attention, as reported by the Daily Mail.
Vice President JD Vance and Speaker of the House Mike Johnson shared a lighthearted moment, complete with a whispered remark and a swipe at President Joe Biden’s past speeches.

Before Trump took the podium on March 4, cameras captured Vance and Johnson greeting each other. Johnson, noticing their outfits, joked that the two hadn’t “worn the same tie.”
Vance played along, responding: “We could have coordinated, I guess, but…”
Then, leaning in toward Johnson’s ear, Vance lowered his voice. Whatever he said wasn’t fully picked up by the microphones, but as he pulled back, he added:
“By the way, I think the speech is going to be great. But I don’t know how you do this for 90 minutes.”
Johnson, clearly unfazed, responded while pushing down a microphone in front of them: “The hardest thing was doing it during Biden, when his speech was a stupid campaign speech.”
This isn’t the only comment caught on a hot mic recently.

A meeting meant to discuss U.S. support for Ukraine turned into a full-blown confrontation between Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelenskyy – and a hot mic caught exactly what Trump said after he booted the Ukrainian delegation from the White House.
Zelenskyy came to Washington last week seeking reassurances that the U.S. would continue its military aid to Ukraine as the war against Russia drags on. But instead of securing support, he found himself on the receiving end of Trump’s wrath.
The meeting, which unfolded in front of the press, quickly took a sharp turn when Trump accused Zelenskyy of failing to show gratitude for past American assistance.
“You have to be thankful. You don’t have the cards. You’re buried there. Your people are dying. You’re running low on soldiers,” Trump told Zelenskyy, making it clear that continued U.S. backing was not guaranteed.

Then came the ultimatum: “You’re either gonna make a deal or we’re out. And if we’re out, you’ll fight it out.”
As tensions in the room reached a breaking point, Trump made a move that caught the attention of the press. A hot mic reportedly picked up his final instructions to his staff as the media was ushered out.
“You’re right, maybe we should [inaudible]. Let’s have a little something… Would you bring them to the Roosevelt Room?” Trump was heard saying, according to reports.
It was in the Roosevelt Room, just down the hall from the Oval Office, that Zelenskyy and his team were formally told that their meeting was over.
